LMC Be Counted Art Competition

In conjunction with the U.S. Census, Lake Michigan College is sponsoring an art competition to raise awareness. Submit your artwork for the chance to illustrate the importance of this event to the campus community!

The winning entry will be featured on campus posters, stickers and notecards which will be used to encourage an accurate count for Census 2020. Award winners receive a $100 award as well as a complimentary copy suitable for portfolio display.

To submit artwork, please review the submission guidelines below and complete the entry form.

You may upload a file representing your artwork using the upload field below. To submit in person in L-122 in the Arts and Science office, email Tiffany Bohm or call 269-927-8877 to arrange a time to submit your work. Each submission must include an entry form.

Submissions for the LMC Be Counted Art Competition will be accepted until noon on February 14, 2020. Late submissions will not be accepted.

The winner will be chosen by a committee of staff, faculty and students with a final decision made Friday, February 21, 2020. The winner will be announced at February 21, 2020 and entries will be displayed through the month of March. Entrants can arrange to pick up their work April 1, 2020.


Art Competition Guidelines

  1. This award program is open only to current Lake Michigan College students.
  2. All submissions must be original artwork and be accompanied by an entry form. Following the contest, artwork will be returned to be available for pick-up by the artists. Pick-up information will be provided when the winner is announced.
  3. Most art media are eligible, including oils and acrylics, watercolors, pen and pencil, collage, photography, and graphic design productions. 3-D work such as sculpture, ceramics, will not be accepted.
  4. 2-D work does not have to be framed, but should be matted or mount-ed on board or foam core with some sort of wire or other hanging device on the back. No wet paint or other unstable surfaces.
  5. Graphic design and digital photography entries must be submitted in hard copy and on CD—either as a file native to Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop or as a .tif, .eps or press-resolution PDF file. All digital submissions must be converted to CMYK, and images must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
  6. Maximum of three submissions per student, no more than two sub-missions from one medium.
  7. Any style and appropriate subject matter is acceptable. In the case of graphic design entries, preference may be given to content that relates to Lake Michigan College AND the 2020 Census.
  8. Selection of the winner is made by the members of the LMC Be Counted Art Competition committee. Entries must include design or text related to the 2020 census and encourage interest and/or participation in the census count.
  9. The winning artwork is printed on a full color poster and notecard will be made for the “tag” event. Entrants agree to permit Lake Michigan College to feature the artwork on a poster and/ or other printed materials to be used by the college in support of the 2020 LMC Be Counted census/Be Counted Michigan 2020 campaign.
  10. The winner receives a $100 award, and a portfolio copy.
