Bio:
Sean is a native of Southwest Michigan and a graduate of Lake Michigan College. He returned to LMC as an adjunct faculty member in 2011 and became a full-time faculty member in 2013. Sean is currently the Chair of English, Communication, and World Languages in addition to his teaching duties. His areas of expertise are first-year writing, co-req remediation, drama as literature, and Native American literature. He regularly presents at regional and national conferences and has served as a subject matter expert for statewide systems reforms in Michigan, Oregon, and Texas. He is a doctoral student at Youngstown State University and was a member of the 2021 class of the Southwest Michigan "40 under 40."

Dr. Paine has been teaching history at LMC since August 2002. He received a B. A. and M. A. in history from Michigan State University in 1990 and 1993, respectively, and a Ph. D. in American history from the University of Kentucky in 1998. His dissertation was titled, “‘Kentucky will be the last to give up the Union’: Kentucky Politics, 1844-1861,” explaining why Kentucky did not secede and join the Confederate States of America. Before arriving at LMC. Dr. Paine taught at Northern Kentucky University, Lexington Community College (now Bluegrass Community and Technical College), Indiana University Southeast, the University of Kentucky, and Middle Tennessee State University.
