LMC Free Textbook Program (FTP)
Student Eligibility
Student must be CC Guarantee eligible and:
- Must be a 2023 or 2024 high school graduate and,
- Must have graduated from an in-district high school and,
- If the student graduated with a homeschool or GED diploma, they are eligible if they are classified as in-district.
- High school transcripts are required for eligibility and should be sent to the Admissions Department.
- Must be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) at LMC and,
- Must be in good (aid-eligible) SAP standing and,
- Refer to the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress policy for aid-eligible statuses.
- Must be classified as an in-district resident. Refer to the Residency Policy.
- Residency for this requirement is based on the student’s permanent address and does not take on-campus housing, VA status, or other exceptions into consideration.
- Classification is based on the permanent/home address ZIP code of the student.
OR:
- Students who attended Lake Michigan College (LMC or the College) under the Red Hawk Futures (RHF) scholarship program during the 23/24 school year and are continuing full-time enrollment at LMC for the 24/25 academic year, while continuing to meet RHF criteria, are eligible for free textbooks.
Additional Information
- FTP applies only to required textbooks/course materials purchased through the LMC Bookstore.
- Pell funds and scholarships not used for tuition and fees will be applied toward textbook purchases first. Any remaining charges will be covered by FTP.
- FTP includes only required textbooks and course materials.
- Examples of items not included: apparel, supplies such as backpacks, pens, pencils, notebooks, or laptops, and optional supplemental texts or materials. These items may be purchased with Pell funds but cannot be purchased with FTP.
- Required course materials include textbooks (purchase or rental; physical or digital), access codes, and required supplemental texts or packets.
- Recalculation of FTP: for any classes dropped (with refund) through the add/drop period, any FTP funds paid out by the college will be removed from the student account and the student will be expected to return the unused textbooks to the LMC Bookstore to clear the charges.
- If the student does not return the books, they will be responsible for the cost of the books.
- Beginning with the withdraw period (the withdraw period starts on the census date noted in Banner), FTP funds will not be removed from the student account if the student withdraws from a class.
- Students may choose to do a book buy-back at the end of the semester at the LMC Bookstore. The student may keep any buy-back refund money.
Reimbursement and Change of Status:
- The College will reimburse an eligible student for approved materials purchased out of pocket at the LMC Bookstore before the Bookstore Credit process is implemented.
- Eligible students who change status from part-time to full-time or full-time to part-time will have their funding adjusted accordingly. This may result in a refund if funds are added, or in a balance due if funds are removed.
