Lake Michigan College Celebrates Fab Lab 2nd Anniversary

Lake Michigan College is hosting a celebration for its Fab Lab’s second anniversary from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, April 1 in the Benton Harbor campus Hanson Technology Center.

During the celebration, Fab Lab techs and makers will be on hand to demonstrate design software and high-tech tools, including laser cutters, 3D printers, a CNC router and an embroidery machine. Guests can also watch a live demonstration of a Jacob’s Ladder, a high voltage electrical device that produces a continuous arc of large sparks.

Attendees will learn about upcoming Fab Lab summer camp workshops and have the first opportunity to register. And like all good birthday parties, there will be pizza and cake.

The Fab Lab first opened to the public in April 2017. Since then almost 6,000 makers of all ages and interests have participated in 241 workshops and events.

Located in LMC’s Hanson Technology Center, the Fab Lab serves as an open-access digital fabrication studio and collaborative workshop with information, tools and software. They offer low-cost, hands-on workshops on a variety of topics and tools. The Fab Lab is open 4-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday for anyone age 8-108 who has the interest to learn and create.

To learn more about Fab Lab events and equipment, and to register for the event, visit the Fab Lab web page. The event is free and open to the public.
