LMC hosts event to help students apply for Financial Aid

Lake Michigan College will host a FAFSA Assistance Night event from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the Student Services Area inside the Main Building entrance on the Benton Harbor campus.

LMC staff will be available to answer questions and assist with the financial aid application process in this free event open to the public. Students of all ages who plan to attend college in the 2020-21 academic year are encouraged to attend, even if they are undecided or planning to attend a school other than LMC.

“The financial aid application process can be daunting,” LMC’s Director, Admissions and Recruitment Jeremy Schaeffer said.  “Lake Michigan College’s mission is to serve the community. That includes giving students in Southwest Michigan the help they need to get their questions answered as we approach the application deadlines for the 2020-21 academic year.”

Schaeffer added that all prospective students are also welcome to setup appointments with LMC staff during regular office hours to get help with their application.

The deadline set by the state of Michigan for the 2020-21 academic year is March 1 (more info available at studentaid.gov). Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid early because certain funds are distributed on a first come, first served basis.
