Red Hawk volleyball, baseball, softball receive NJCAA Academic Teams of the year honors

Student-athletes at Lake Michigan College use the same grit and determination in the classroom as they do on the field or the court. Three Red Hawks programs –Volleyball, Baseball, and Softball – received 2019-2020 National Junior College Athletic Association Academic Teams of the Year honors. They also were named All- Academic Teams in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA).

To receive this distinction, teams must have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. For 2019-2020 LMC Baseball led the way with a 3.25 GPA. Softball carried a 3.06 GPA and Volleyball a 3.05 GPA.

Several Red Hawks were named both NJCAA Academic All-Americans as well as Academic All-MCCAA. The NJCAA All-Academic First Team (4.00 GPA) includes Kaleb Burke (Baseball), Alexa Kesterke (Volleyball), and Michael Sibbersen (Baseball). Andis Klavins (Baseball) was named to the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team (3.80-3.99 GPA). Tayha Briggs (Volleyball), Cameron Dalrymple (Baseball), Jarrett DeLand (Baseball), Aaron Federman (Baseball), Jaidyn Hutsell (Softball), Jaguar Jackson (Men's Basketball), Nathaniel Pittman (Men's Soccer), and Madison Vollman (Softball) were named to the NJCAA All-American Third Team (3.60-3.79 GPA). All received Academic All-MCCAA honors as well.

Others named to the Academic All-MCCAA team were Megan Adkerson (Volleyball), Hunter Bedell (Baseball), Payton Carney (Baseball), Morgan Dwyer (Volleyball), Matthew Engler (Baseball), MacKenzie Ecker (Women's Soccer), Shane Gaban (Men's Soccer), Michael Garritano (Baseball), Kiarra Herson (Softball), Nick Henman (Baseball), Sydney Payne (Softball), Tyler Pursley (Baseball), Amiyah Smith (Softball), Maci Wilson (Women's Soccer) and Cassidy Zavoral (Softball).

"We are so very proud of these young men and women and their accomplishments, especially during these trying times," LMC Intercollegiate Athletic Director Melissa Grau said. "We look forward to watching their success for years to come."
