Lake Michigan College offers free FAFSA Workshops

Lake Michigan College is hosting a series of on-campus workshops to answer questions and assist families with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

FAFSA Workshops are scheduled for:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m., South Haven Campus, 125 Veterans Blvd.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 27, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Benton Harbor Campus, 2755 E. Napier Ave.
  • Thursday, March 7, 5:30-7:30 p.m., South Haven Campus, 125 Veterans Blvd.
  • Thursday, March 21, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Bertrand Innovation Center, 1905 Foundation Drive, Niles.

Students of all ages who plan to attend college in the 2024-25 academic year are encouraged to attend these free events. LMC staff will be available to answer questions and assist with the financial aid application process.

“Whether you’re a current student or future Red Hawk, these FAFSA nights offer personalized guidance to unlock financial aid and make college dreams happen,” said Nicole Hatter, LMC’s Executive Director, Advising and Financial Aid. “We have trained, professional financial aid staff ready to help. We’ll walk through the FAFSA form step-by-step to guide students and ensure accurate information. Bring your questions – we’re here to clarify any confusion in this important process.”

Before attending these workshops, students should set up their Federal Student Aid ID online at studentaid.gov. This requires a Social Security Number, full name, personal email, date of birth, and a memorable username and password. Both students and one of their parents or guardians will need separate IDs for the process.

“This is crucial information to have before you come to campus,” Hatter said. “Once you get your ID set up, pick one of our campuses and sessions for an evening of community, encouragement, and insights into college affordability.”

Completing and submitting the FAFSA provides students with access to millions of dollars of federal student aid to help pay for college. Most colleges and universities, including LMC, also use FAFSA information to determine student eligibility for other state and school aid.

The FAFSA deadline set by the state of Michigan for the 2024-25 academic year is May 1.
