BENTON HARBOR, MI – The Berrien Community Foundation recognized Lake Michigan College with the coveted Golden Acorn Award at its 73rd annual meeting this month.
“Each year we recognize an organization that goes above and beyond to serve our community,” stated BCF Board Secretary Phil Molloy. “This year it is our honor to recognize Lake Michigan College for leadership, partnership, and dedication to the community,” he added.
In addition to the award and recognition, LMC will receive a check for $4 thousand dollars that is tied to a new book fund for students in need, helping to ensure greater access to educational resources.
“We are proud to partner with the Berrien Community Foundation. They are truly barrier busters for our students – always focusing on how to achieve success for students that need help. We want to thank BCF for all they do to help us build the talent we need in our community to help us improve our quality of life and create a competitive atmosphere for investment and growth,” said LMC President Dr. Trevor Kubatzke.
The recently announced Book Fund will assist with books and materials for students facing financial barriers. “We are fortunate as a region to have an organization like the Berrien Community Foundation that is focused on tackling challenges head on, and that understands the importance of access to education and training,” Kubatzke added.
