Lake Michigan College Visual & Performing Arts Department brings magical mischief to the stage with “Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic”

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – The Lake Michigan College Visual & Performing Arts Department presents a clever and imaginative comedy experience when they bring "Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic" to the LMC Mendel Center Hanson Theatre on the College’s Benton Harbor Campus.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Nov. 20-22 and 2 p.m. Nov. 23. Concessions and a bar featuring a specialty cocktail will be available at each performance. Tickets are available online at www.TheMendelCenter.com/events.

“Puffs” is a parody of a well-known boy wizard story told from the perspective of the underdogs, who are often overlooked and underestimated.  The Puffs are a group of misfits who always come in last. Over the course of seven increasingly eventful years, they hope to at least come in third place, but they eventually find that friendship and belonging are the real prize.

“The ‘Puffs’ storyline is part of our thematic season of fantasy, the magic of imagination, connection, and belonging. It aligns with our Spring semester musical production of 'Big Fish,' which we will present on the LMC Mendel Center Jenkins Theatre stage in March,” stated director and LMC Theatre Instructor Shalico Sain.

Sain added that she selected this production as the fall play because she felt the audience would connect with its comedic take on a familiar story.

“Quite frankly, I found the script side-splitting hilarious, and I thought we could all use some levity in our lives and world right now. What better place than to come to the theatre to escape and enjoy some laughs for a few hours,” Sain stated.

This lighthearted show is campy and told in a comedic stylized way, with exaggerated, ironic, non-realistic themes and effects. “Puffs” is geared for adults and contains adult language and humor. It is recommended for mature audiences.
