LMC Visual & Performing Arts Department holding auditions for Spring musical production of “Big Fish”

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – The Lake Michigan College Visual & Performing Arts Department will hold open auditions for the Spring musical production of "Big Fish," directed by LMC Instructor of Theatre Shalico Sain.

Auditions will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, and from 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the LMC Mendel Center Hanson Theatre, 2755 E. Napier Avenue, Benton Harbor. Students and community members are welcome to participate and need only attend one audition date, though they should plan to stay for the full two-and-a-half-hour session. Callbacks, if needed, are scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 11.

While the Visual & Performing Arts Department prioritizes casting full-time enrolled students, community members are strongly encouraged to audition. High school and middle school students are also welcome to audition.

Advance online registration is encouraged at https://tinyurl.com/LMCBigFish26. Drop-ins are permitted. The audition packet, show details, and rehearsal information are available through the sign-up link.

Performances are Thursday, March 26 through Sunday, March 29 in the LMC Mendel Center Jenkins Theatre. Rehearsals begin the week of Jan. 12. They will regularly run 6-9 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, with occasional Friday-Sunday rehearsals a possibility.

Students and community volunteers interested in building the set or assisting with costumes, lights, props, or run crew should contact Sain at ssain@lakemichigancollege.edu.

About the Lake Michigan College Visual & Performing Arts Department

The Visual & Performing Arts Department allows students to reach new levels of excellence through classroom instruction and public performance. Many programs, including instrumental and vocal music, theatre, and dance, are based in the Lake Michigan College Mendel Center, the only performing arts center of its kind in Southwest Michigan. Here, LMC students have opportunities to study the performing arts in a venue that attracts thousands of patrons annually. Programs including drawing, painting, and graphic design allow students to explore the possibilities in the visual arts.

Auditions are held for select ensembles that perform on the same stages as world-renowned touring acts. Students in any major also have opportunities to audition for Broadway musicals and plays and join two different vocal ensembles, string and wind ensembles, a pop-rock ensemble, and a jazz band. One of only two colleges in Michigan to carry the prestigious All-Steinway designation, LMC has a team of highly qualified faculty that brings real-world expertise to the classroom.
