LMC Mathletes Compete Nationally; Set Third-Highest Individual Score in Program History

BENTON HARBOR, MI — Lake Michigan College (LMC) Mathletes are celebrating a standout individual achievement from the Spring 2026 competition season. Marvyn Roy recorded a score of 23.5 on the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) Student Mathematics League exam, the third-highest score ever achieved by an LMC Mathlete since the program began competing in 2010.

"Marvyn's performance this spring is a testament to the dedication and intellectual grit that defines our Mathletes program. To crack the top three all-time at LMC, against more than fifteen years of talented competitors, is a remarkable achievement. I couldn't be more proud of him and the entire team for continuing to represent Lake Michigan College at such a high level," said Jim Larson, LMC Mathletes Coach.

Student Mathematics League Competition

The Student Mathematics League was founded in 1970 by Nassau Community College in New York and has grown into one of the premier math competitions for two-year college students in the country. The league includes more than 165 colleges across thirty-five states and Bermuda, engaging over eight thousand community college math students each year. Each competition exam consists of twenty challenging problems that students have one hour to complete.
