Michigan Secretary of State Mobile Office Coming to Lake Michigan College on October 15
BENTON HARBOR, MI — The Michigan Secretary of State Mobile Office will visit Lake Michigan College on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Napier Avenue Campus, 2755 E. Napier Ave., Benton Harbor. The visit is open to the community.
The visit's primary goal is to make voter registration easy and accessible ahead of the November 3 general election. Residents can register to vote for the first time or update the address on an existing registration on-site.
The Mobile Office brings many services normally handled at Secretary of State branch offices directly to LMC’s campus. Besides registering to vote, visitors can obtain a first-time Michigan ID, renew a driver's license or state ID, complete vehicle transactions such as title transfers and plate renewals, and apply for or renew a disability parking placard.
"Lake Michigan College is proud to partner with the Michigan Secretary of State to bring these services right to our campus. For many of our students, this is their first chance to register to vote, and removing barriers to civic participation is part of our commitment to the community. We invite everyone in our region, not just our students, to stop by, get registered and take care of their Secretary of State business close to home," said Dr. Tiffany Bohm, Department Chair, Social Sciences, Philosophy, and Education and Political Science Faculty.
The Secretary of State's office encourages residents to take advantage of the visit and to share the news with anyone who may benefit.
Instant title services are not available at the Mobile Office. Some residents qualify for a no-fee state ID, including those age 65 or older, veterans, residents who are legally blind or experiencing homelessness, and recipients of FIP, SDA, SSDI or SSI benefits, with the required documentation. Late fees apply to expired licenses, IDs and registrations.
What to bring
Visitors should bring the documents their transaction requires. A current license or ID covers most renewals. A first-time state ID requires proof of legal presence, proof of Social Security number, proof of identity and two proofs of Michigan residency. Vehicle transactions generally require the original title, proof of Michigan No-Fault insurance and a Michigan driver's license or ID. Full document lists are available at Michigan.gov/SOS.
