Lake Michigan College (College) wishes to honor distinguished non-faculty employees who retire in good standing from the College and have demonstrated exceptional commitment and contribution through service, responsibility, vision, and leadership.
Emeritus status is reserved for those who have demonstrated significant accomplishments benefiting the College over the course of at least 10 years of service as an employee, and nominations must duly reflect these extensive professional contributions.
The rights and privileges of those honored with emeritus status are as follows:
- Use of the title “Emeritus” after their retirement.
- College-provided business cards with the title of the former position followed by “Emeritus”, if desired.
- Use of a College-provided email ending in .edu.
- An updated ID badge denoting their emeritus title.
- Tuition remission equivalent to College contractors and on-campus partners (i.e., as a taxable benefit).
- Access to site-licensed software suites when licensing agreements allow.
- Continued use of the employee assistance program (EAP).
- The opportunity to attend College performances, events, and programs at the employee rate, such as visual and performing arts events, athletic events, Mendel Center performances, wellness programs, etc.
- Invitations to commencements, convocations, employee recognition events, groundbreaking events, Lake Michigan College Foundation fundraising and alumni events, and major campus celebrations.
- The opportunity to participate in commencement ceremonies on stage in full regalia provided by the College.
- Use of discounts offered to employees, such as at the College winery, bookstore, and cell phone plans.
- Occasional limited, general assistance through the on-campus employee IT helpdesk, as available.
- Inclusion in College-wide communications (newsletters, announcements).
- The same privileges provided to employees at the Fitness Studio and Library, including access to databases, as licensing allows. Inclusion on the plaque of emeriti displayed at the College.
