The Academic Deans of Lake Michigan College (the College) are responsible for the quality of instruction within their respective areas. They may carry out this responsibility in a variety of ways such as group meetings and discussions to individual class observations and Student Perception of Instruction surveys.
Classroom Observations
Full-time Faculty and Lecturers
- For full-time faculty and lecturers, all classroom observations will be conducted openly and with the full knowledge of the faculty.
Adjunct Faculty
- All new adjunct faculty will be evaluated through classroom observation in each course they teach.
- All continuing adjunct faculty have a classroom observation every three years.
- If at all possible, adjunct faculty will be notified in advance of the observation. The visit is routine, and no special preparation should be made by the faculty.
Student Evaluation of Instruction
Student Perception of Instruction surveys are to be conducted each semester. Additionally, accreditation requirements may necessitate the administration of additional surveys as determined by the accrediting body.
Full-time Faculty
- Full-time faculty will survey at least two classes in Fall semester and two classes in Spring semester.
- Exceptions will be made in consultation with the supervising Dean.
- Full-time faculty may survey as many of their classes as they wish per semester.
- Surveys will be closed by the penultimate week of classes.
Adjunct Faculty
- Adjunct faculty are required to administer the surveys for all classes taught during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
- Exceptions will only be considered after consultation with the supervising Dean.
- Surveys must be completed and closed by the penultimate week of classes each semester.
