LMC Announces Fall Performing Arts Events

Lake Michigan College’s Performing Arts Department has announced its fall theatre and music performance schedule.

CAROLINE, OR CHANGE
"Caroline, Or Change" will run November 16 and 17 at 8 p.m., and November 18 at 3 p.m. in The Mendel Center’s Hanson Theatre on LMC’s Benton Harbor Campus.

“Caroline, or Change” is a Tony-nominated, Broadway musical by Angels in America playwright, Tony Kushner. Set against the background of the American Civil Rights movement, and championed by Caroline’s politicized daughter and the assassination of President Kennedy, the musical is both a comedy and a tragedy showing how people confront change on a personal and a national level.

“I cannot think of a better vehicle to spotlight the transcendental power of women as well as people of color in our country since the civil rights movements of the 1960s. Many of these same topics still headline our political spectrum today, whether it may be the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement, equal pay for women or the toppling of confederate statues, this powerful work challenges us to observe how far we have or have not truly come in today’s America. It has been my extreme pleasure to bring this work to life here at Lake Michigan College and with this dynamic cast of students and local performers right here in Benton Harbor,” said Paul Mow, Stage Director and LMC Theatre Coordinator.

Music Director, Joshua Goines, leads an eclectic score blending gospel, blues, Motown, classical, and traditional Jewish melodies. Costumes are by Julie Smiy.

Admission is free for all students age 18 and under, and for all LMC students and employees with an LMC ID. Ticket prices for adults are $18, and $12 for seniors plus ticketing fees.

Tickets are available online at www.TheMendelCenter.com, or at the Box Office by calling (269) 927-8700, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.  Learn more at www.lakemichigancollege.edu/carolineorchange
