Red Hawk Futures Scholarship offers free tuition to in-district 2024 high school graduates

High school students graduating from an in-district high school in 2024 can receive free tuition to attend Lake Michigan College through the Red Hawk Futures Scholarship program.

Administered by the Lake Michigan College Foundation, all 2024 high school graduates in LMC’s district are eligible for the last-dollar scholarship, covering 100 percent of tuition for classes starting Fall 2024 through Spring semester 2026.

The LMC Foundation is honored to provide seed money to launch this program and will continue to raise additional funding as needed to ensure its sustainability,” LMC Foundation President Randy Bettich said. “Providing access to college and job training programs for local high school graduates is at the top of our priority list.”

To receive the Red Hawk Futures Scholarship, students should be U.S. citizens, eligible non-citizens, or documented DACA recipients who have not yet earned an associate or bachelor’s degree. Students must earn a high school diploma from an in-district high school in 2024 or be in-district residents who have received a GED/high school equivalency in 2024. They must also complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

There is no GPA requirement. Students must start college at LMC in the Fall of 2024 to qualify. Students will receive this scholarship for two years of full-time enrollment and must remain in good standing with LMC to continue to receive funding.

The Red Hawk Futures Scholarship is only for educational programs at Lake Michigan College. Any federal, state, or third-party scholarships and grants will be applied first. The Red Hawk Futures Scholarship is a last-dollar program that covers the remaining balance of tuition and fees. This scholarship excludes housing, transportation, or course-related items like lab and technology fees.

In-district high schools include Andrews Academy; Benton Harbor High School; Berrien Springs High School (this includes Berrien Springs Virtual Academy and Discovery Academy); Brandywine High School; Bridge Academy of Southwest Michigan; Bridgman High School; Buchanan High School and Buchanan Virtual Academy; Coloma High School; Countryside Academy; Covert High School; Career and Alternative Pathways to Education Center (Dream Academy); Eau Claire High School; Grace Christian High School; Lake Michigan Catholic High School; Lakeshore High School; Michigan Lutheran High School; New Buffalo High School; Niles High School; River Valley High School; St. Joseph High School; South Haven High School; and Watervliet High School.  Students living in-district who are 2024 home school graduates or have received a GED/high school equivalency in 2024 are also eligible.
