Professional/Real-World Experience: Prior to becoming an educator, I worked as executive chef, and executive pastry chef in various settings including five star hotels, fine dining restaurants and private country clubs. I believe you never stop learning and am passionate about teaching others.

Chad Dee is originally from the Southwest Michigan area and then relocated to South Bend, Indiana in the early 90s. Although still located in South Bend, Chad returned to work in Southwest Michigan in November of 2008 in a variety of roles with the MTEC of Lake Michigan College. Currently, as the Director of the Hanson Technology Center, Chad oversees events that take place in the technology center as well as the Fab Lab.

Chad graduated from Indiana Tech in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and continued on and completed his MBA with an emphasis in Marketing and Management in 2003.

My undergraduate degree was earned at Grand Valley State University, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology. Following my interest in wine and fermentation, I formalized my education at the University of California, Davis, earning a Winemaking Certificate. I have worked in the wine industry for the last decade at both small, boutique wineries and larger regional brands, in roles at all levels of the business. My role as Winemaker here at Lake Michigan College is to manage the student-run winery, Lake Michigan Vintners, as well as instruct course material in the Wine and Viticulture program to train the next generation of Midwest Winemakers.

Mr. Haemer is currently Senior Nuclear Counsel for American Electric Power at its D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant in Bridgman, Michigan. Prior to that, he was a lawyer with the nuclear energy practice of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLC.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Mr. Haemer served in the U.S. Navy as an engineering duty officer with the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. His work there covered control of nuclear testing, quality assurance, radiological protection, and defueling of submarine reactors. He rose to the level of Deputy Program Manager for environmental, health and safety programs in the nuclear technology section.

Contributions: Mr. Haemer works closely with senior management and outside experts to integrate resolution of technical, financing and regulatory challenges of operating a commercial nuclear power plant. Specifically, these callenges are in areas including:
• Contracting for goods and services, including provisions for nuclear quality assurance, nuclear liability, and nuclear licensing considerations.
• Litigation in State and Federal courts on contracting and employment matters. Also, litigation before administrative agencies both for utility rate regulation and nuclear licensing issues.
• Human resource matters that arise both for company and contractor employees.
• Federal regulatory interface, both for nuclear and railroad regulation.
• Government affairs coordination at the local, State and Federal level.

Professional/Real-World Experience: Mr. Haemer has worked on a wide range of engineering and legal topics necessary for successful support of commercial nuclear power operation, including State and NRC regulatory matters, commercial transactions, employee relations, and government affairs. One area of particular focus over the last thirty years has been on the proper handling and disposal of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste.
